Is it necessary to romanticize feudalism in order to condemn capitalism? I like the conclusion but I’m not mourning serfdom

we say the reason to learn history is to avoid the mistakes of the past, but this shows another reason: expanding our sense of injustice beyond the immediate horizon of our own lived experience.

very interesting.. we never learned this. They made it sound like capitalism was better than feudalism.. no indentured servitude.

Money, and capital should not dominate government. Representation means we have accurate representation by someone like us and who understands us.

i have never understood the concept of “owning land”. how does one own a part of the earth?? all of this planet is equally shared with all of it’s residents, human and otherwise.

We go to work to produce the products we turn around and buy with the hourly wage we "earned" making the damn product. Why are we buying back our own produce...

"Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration". - Abraham Lincoln

This is why understandi history (and by extension historical materialism) is so crucial to making sense of the issues we face today. Great video

the fact that "open the commons" is still a political call thats comprehensible in the modern times and still relatable and desirable is telling. we've felt it the whole time. we've known the whole time.

Excellent explanation. It's sad that many people believe this has always been the way society has operated but it's only been a thing for the past 500 years. People often imagine Capitalism being an urban phenomenon that started in the big cities and spread to the countryside but in fact Capitalism started in the English countryside when landlords started to expect rent to be paid in money not produce and the pressure of land "improvement" became a thing. Something I didn't realise until I read Ellen Meiksins Wood's The Origin of Capitalism that the etymology of the word "improvement" meant to "improfit" land i.e to turn the land into a source of money (this recasts the term "self-improvement" in an interesting light!) This early modern English financial invention slowly spread to Europe but it arrives there much later and post dates the French Revolution in France for example. The introduction of capitalism required the destruction of the European peasant class which was achieved mostly in the 19th century.

Fun Fact, in the 1200s most peasants and laborers worked only 150-180 days a year to come around and had vacation the rest of the year

That skill is for frontend design — not needed here. Here's your post: If you're choosing food for maximum vitamins and minerals, this post is for you. Most people eat enough calories but still run low on key micronutrients — and that gap slows fat loss, kills energy, and wrecks recovery. Here's how to fix it with food. THE MOST NUTRIENT-DENSE FOODS BY CATEGORY LEAFY GREENS Spinach, kale, and Swiss chard are among the most micronutrient-dense foods on the planet. A single cup of cooked spinach delivers over 800mcg of vitamin K, 245mg of magnesium, and meaningful doses of iron, folate, and vitamin A. Eat these daily — raw or cooked, both work. ORGAN MEATS Beef liver is nutritionally unmatched. A 100g serving contains over 6mg of vitamin B12 (250% DV), 4,900mcg of vitamin A, 6mg of iron, and high amounts of copper, zinc, and riboflavin. If you're eating for micronutrients, liver is the top tier. Even once a week makes a difference. EGGS One whole egg contains 13 essential vitamins and minerals. The yolk holds choline, selenium, vitamin D, B12, and zinc. Don't skip the yolk. Two whole eggs daily covers a significant portion of your micronutrient baseline, especially for B vitamins and fat-solubles. FATTY FISH Salmon, sardines, and mackerel are the best food sources of vitamin D — a nutrient over 40% of people are deficient in. They also deliver omega-3s, B12, iodine, and selenium. Aim for 2–3 servings per week minimum. LEGUMES Lentils and black beans are high in folate, iron, potassium, magnesium, and zinc. One cup of cooked lentils has 18g of protein and covers nearly 90% of your daily folate needs. Cheap, filling, and micronutrient-dense. SEEDS AND NUTS Pumpkin seeds are one of the richest food sources of zinc and magnesium — two minerals most people run low on. A 30g serving of pumpkin seeds delivers 2.5mg of zinc and 150mg of magnesium. Brazil nuts provide selenium: just two nuts per day covers your full daily requirement. COLORFUL VEGETABLES Orange and red produce — bell peppers, carrots, sweet potatoes — are loaded with vitamin C, beta-carotene, and potassium. One red bell pepper has more vitamin C than an orange. Variety in color = variety in micronutrient coverage. THE SIMPLE RULE Build every plate around a protein source, a green vegetable, and one colorful vegetable. Add seeds or legumes on the side. Do that consistently and you'll hit the majority of your micronutrient targets without tracking every vitamin. Fat loss requires a calorie deficit. But sustained fat loss requires a body that functions properly — and that means being stocked on the vitamins and minerals that support your hormones, metabolism, and energy.
