Hi fashion grad here and I’m a fan! It’s a semi-synthetic fiber and much more sustainable than polyester, which most clothes are made of today. It’s more absorbent/ moisture wicking than cotton and biodegradable unlike poly! It’s also naturally antibacterial! If you’re looking to be more intentional about the textiles you choose, Lyocell/ Tencel is a great option ☺️

I have my bachelors in fashion design and I LOVE Lyocell. It’s SO SOFT, breathable, and very durable with a beautiful drape. 💕Technically it’s semi-synthetic since it’s made from natural materials like wood, eucalyptus, or even bamboo but is then put through processing to be made into actual yarns and fabric. It IS biodegradable, and takes a lot less water/pesticides than cotton. Also lyocell is made in non-toxic, closed loop manufacturing that recycles its solvents. It is a MUCH more sustainable fabric than rayon and especially full synthetics like polyester.

Tencel is a fabulous fabric. Very durable. Beautiful hand feel. Excellent draping. Sustainable. Head and shoulders better than polyester

Pretty sure it’s “green washing” sure we can grow bamboo and such quickly, but the chemicals used to process to make tencel and other fabrics like it are horrid for the environment

I make most of my clothing and it's a bit harder to find than yardage labeled rayon. Fiber from wood pulp has been around for a long time. It works really well with my hot summer climate. Now, the rabbit hole you should look up is how it, and bamboo, are processed. Fabric processing in general is hard on the environment. So sustainable? Very toxic. If you goal is to have fabric which feels better on your skin, rayon is great but it's not great for the environment.

I sew my own clothes and love working with tencel. Cotton, no matter how light weight will always have a slight crispness to its drape. Tencell gives me the drape I want while still being breathable unlike polyester.

It’s basically a type of rayon. Has some of the good qualities and some of the bad qualities of both natural fibers and synthetic fibers. If most polyester was swapped for this it would be nice.

It’s a great material! It’s feels really good. For me, some of the pieces I have in tensile but sometimes make me a little too hot. It’s not as bad as polyester but not as good as cotton, linen, some silks etc

I bought a pair of lounge pants made from that material and they are amazing!! Soft, breathable and easy to clean. I’d happily invest in more pieces in the future.
