@demystifyingmedicine: THE GOAT 🐐 Jennifer Doudna is an accomplished biochemist, best known for co-developing CRISPR-Cas9, the genome-editing system that made it possible to CUT and REWRITE DNA with unprecedented precision! A breakthrough that transformed modern biology and earned her the 2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with Emmanuelle Charpentier. More recently, Doudna’s lab and the Innovative Genomics Institute have focused on advancing the field beyond the original discovery by developing new genome-editing tools, improving delivery methods for CRISPR-based therapies, creating next-generation CRISPR diagnostics, and uncovering the molecular mechanisms of CRISPR-Cas systems. A strong recent example of her impact is the 2025 report that researchers at the IGI she founded helped support a customized CRISPR base-editing treatment for an infant with a rare genetic disease, showing how the technology she helped create is now moving toward highly personalized medicine.
