Yuk, asking the server their name and calling them by name afterwords feels very forced, inauthentic and done “to seem elegant”. I actually hate that. Ask them about themselves and make a real human connection instead.

if it’s my first time with a server and it was a nice experience, I’ll just ask for their name at the end to thank them by their name before leaving. I agree with some comments it can be dominant if it’s meant to corral them throughout service.
