The 6-Inch Rule: If a dump truck has a 6-inch gap between the top of the load and the top of the bed, they are not legally required to have a tarp. But the measurement is not just from the side of the box it is from the tallest point on the load. So technically that load is illegal but that all depends on the officer pulling you over.

Yeah, but a lot of it also depends on if they have legal mudflaps and legal everything else and I love all these trucks that said not responsible for road debris, but they have no mudflaps, which makes them responsible because they didn’t do their due diligence to prevent it
