My father survived Auschwitz at 13 years old …his family was murdered ..he lost his home his life ..all he knew was that he was alone and hungry… he tried so hard to give us a peaceful childhood but he was so hurt and so broken… but he tried. He really tried. And god knows we were proud of him!

My father never had a dad, and I feel like because he knew the pain he’d always carried from not having a father, he made extra sure to be the best daddy to me. I’ll never forget him asking me, “Am I a good dad? I try really hard to be, but I never had a dad so I don’t know if I’m doing this dad thing right”. Of course I let him know he couldn’t be doing a better job. He really was the best there was. He taught me a lot, but he never taught me how to live without him. I miss him every single day.
