@oska_phoenix: Powerful demonstration of accessing stored emotional memories. See the moment a subject is guided to vividly recall the sensory details—what they *saw*, *heard*, and *felt*—of a past painful experience. A stark look at how the body holds onto trauma, resonating with the core ideas presented by leading voices in psychiatry like Bessel van der Kolk. #TraumaHealing #EMDR #MentalHealth #BodyKeepsTheScore #Psychology

EMDR is often times done incorrectly and irresponsibly. It took me a year to fully complete it because it’s an 8 step system that people try to do in one session. The only time it’s done quickly is if the person just recently experienced the trauma. I first had to learn polyvagal theory to understand my body’s triggers and also internal family systems to help me understand what parts of me where blocking and protecting me from accessing my abuse. Accessing that trauma can be dangerous so you also have to build grounding tools to help your body and mind recover from recounting the traumatic experience. You repeat this process over and over again until you eventually become desensitized. It’s honestly magical once you reach the other side.

That is not EMDR. It's small parts of it and done incorrectly.

I can't remember what I was thinking because when something traumatic happens to me I disconnect. I cannot remember what I said. I cannot remember anything except being completely overwhelmed

please be aware that self administering EDMR is not advised in more serious PTSD cases is not advised, without external monitoring or proper process you are just going to get overwhelmed and even reinforce the reaction to memory, especially of you only follow the part that is in this fragment

Can it be done with pleasant experiences? If yes, then why do it with negative, why put someone through it again and again

There’s no evidence that EMDR works. Any gains made have nothing to do with the eye movements.
