Lots of siblings aren't close/don't talk. When you say 'a bond like siblings' you mean a very specific thing which is probably rare to have even between siblings.

I had the opposite realization tbh. I always assumed that a sibling is like a built in human connection, but turns out a lot of people aren’t close to their siblings at all 😭

I grew up very close with my two cousins. We were the same age and I always saw them as my sisters because I don’t have any. One day one of them was sad and went outside, and the other followed to comfort her. I went after them too, but they told me I should leave because “you don’t have a sister, you wouldn’t understand.” I knew they were technically right, but to me they were the closest thing I had to sisters. I still remember how much that moment hurt.

The argument "ppl aren't close to their siblings" isn't valid cause the point is that (often) the love and care is unconditional. Siblings will be there for each other, no matter what. If they hate each other or never talk, unlike friends and cousins who in some way or another have to build and maintain those relationships. That's the point!!

Am I the only person who, as an only child, is 100% fine about it? I never wanted siblings and I never felt the need to find sibling connections. I never felt like I was missing something. I’m genuinely happy that I’m an only child.
