The sad thing is parents are now forced to work even when not well because they are maintaining their grown up unemployed children and their children.

I beg to differ. The reason most people die post retirement due to inactivity. People who maintain an “active” lifestyle after retirement tend to live longer

You’re mixing two different issues, well from what i am hearing and understanding, and might be wrong. Routine isn’t the real problem because even successful people have that their life has structure. What you’re actually describing is the frustration of working within a system that doesn’t build real financial freedom. Routine by itself isn’t the trap. Routine without progress is, or maybe i am not understanding you ?

That's why I chow my 2 pots, specially to stamp my passport and go on a holiday. I like extreme activities. I use my leave days for leisure. Hiking refresh the body and mind. Live concerts is the life. That's how I escape the routine. Cleaning & cooking are optional.

I stopped working at 42, well I was retrenched. Now I'm 45 years old, I run my own business and have time to take my kids to school and pick them up. I watch their soccer matches etc. I went to stay in Capetown for 2 months. I'm now back in Jhb and am thinking of starting a pod cast, the sacrifice is that I live in a modest 3 bedroom house and drive an old car, but I have medical aid and everything else that I need. It's just about making small sacrifices and being clear about how you want to live your life

I feel you completely. I thought I was losing my mind. I started my own business for exactly this reason. My concentration span couldn't take corporate anymore. I now have a lot of flexibility. I can raise my teens, start hobbies, work remotely and still make good money. I have healthier habits, even with the demands of a small business. I have a lot look forward to in my personal time.

Monotony is at the core life. No matter the vocation. No matter the activity or hobby. The fact that you wake up everyday, still being you, still having to brush your teeth and bath in itself means that routine is built into who we are. Any activity, no matter how novel , ends up in monotony.
The problem is all/most of us are always living to get somewhere, while not realising that there's nowhere to go, cause we already are now-here.
There's no thing we came here to do. We came to just be.
But theory aside, I agree, the routine is killing. 😅😭
