From a retired Chemistry teacher, your explanation is sensational - well done.

We are just one big walking ball of chemical reactions.

How is it possible that this wasn’t intentionally designed, but instead emerged from random atomic behaviors, huh?

Oh but not designed! Nooo! Your house never had a designer or builder, it just grew randomly out of the ground over many years. 💀

The cool thing about rhodopsins is they are found in basically every organism group, from bacteria to humans. They're used by many organisms that don't have vision, many protozoans for example, for phototaxis,or movement either towards or away from light.

So, that sunset that I'm currently looking at right now is billions of photons bombarding my eyes from outer space, causing double bonded carbon molecules to split millions of times in a complex series of chemical reactions that register in my brain as pretty sunlight... Trippy. Also, just changing gears for a moment (keeping that car analogy), the sunlight that takes just 8 minutes to reach us from 150 million km away actually took hundreds of thousands of years to reach the sun's surface after being created in the core because the sun's interior is so dense that those photons bounce around for SO LONG before they blast free from the sun's photosphere. Trippy. Physics, man... All science is cool.

So what you’re saying is that my poor eyesight is because a bunch of carbon atoms are driving drunk. Damn carbon atoms…(but seriously, this is fascinating!)

I honestly think if I had a teacher like you when I was young and interested ever so slightly in science I probably would’ve pursued it. You’re awesome.
