Funny how it’s always neurodivergent people who think mental health services don’t work 🤔 it’s because you can’t therapy away struggles linked to neurodivergence as it’s not a mental health disorder!

CBT isn’t for everyone. It really for addressing cognitive distortion. You might need an Behavioral Coach if you want to change habits and routines

I done CBT through my work and it’s changed my life forever, it doesn’t work for everyone but it 100% worked for me and I would be gutted if others didn’t get to try cbt because of someone “speaking for the majority” x

As a low intensity therapist working in the nhs I completely understand it isn’t for everyone and of course nothing works for everyone but I can speak from experience when I say it does help many people. As you said there are lots of different ways it can be offered including a webinar, silvercloud and 1-1 therapy which all have a lot of evidence behind them and that is why they are offered by the NHS as they are evidenced to help the most people. The nhs do also offer other therapies in talking therapy such as counselling for depression and IPT ❤️

It works for some problems, mainly if they're based on faulty beliefs. It doesn't help when you can't change your circumstances. The NHS uses it cos it's measurable, but they'd save so much money using a range of therapies.

I don’t understand why the UK is so focused on CBT. In Germany there’s more focus on other therapies like psychodynamic and systemic psychotherapy next to cognitive therapy because everyone is different and you should have the ability to choose.

nah, i’d rather there was at least a nhs option even if it isn’t great. normalising getting rid of health services doesn’t seem like a great idea

the issue is the NHS relying on one modality of therapy. One which only really caters to low-moderate stress/anxiety. People’s issues are a lot more complex than CBT can offer.

That genuinely doesn’t even sound like CBT? CBT is supposed to be done with a therapist who talks things through with you and helps you identify and break negative patterns in your thinking. I’ve done it twice on the NHS, six sessions each time, once with CAMHS and once with adult services. I didn’t find it very helpful for my specific circumstances but it was at least more helpful than watching videos at home on my own 😭 that’s shocking

“Had to endure” I’m sorry that it was wasted on you as CBT helps thousands of people including myself. Not sure what makes you qualified to decide that a widely used talking therapy is useless but sounds like you have bigger issues anyway. What a shame that this didn’t go to someone else who genuinely needs it.

Depends on what you get. There's a different between low intensity cbt and high intensity on the nhs. Cbt is great for some people but not for everyone. That's why there's different modalities

I've done the online CBT (did nothing), 6 sessions of "low intensity" CBT on the phone (did nothing) and 12 sessions of high intensity CBT on Teams. Made me actively worse. My disdain for CBT could not be greater. I genuinely don't understand who it helps, and the research for its success is way weaker than they make out. I now have private therapy and it is a whole other ball game.

can we specify that you mean the computerised CBT offered by NHS, not 1-1 CBT sessions with a qualified psychotherapist

The Gaming Ghoul :
It sounds like it was a course of Low Intensity-CBT, which others have pointed out. I think it's common practice in England's NHS to do a stepped approach now where they start with LI-CBT, then try High Intensity-CBT if it seems like it isn't working. The point of LI-CBT is to help people with mild anxiety or depression and other mild mental health issues. It is meant to ease the pressures on the NHS mental health services while providing a treatment that has strong evidence of effectiveness. It's also usually carried out by Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners who are specifically trained to carry out LI-CBT as opposed to Psychologists.
It has been an effective treatment for a lot of people with mild problems. But it's not really meant to be used for moderate/severe anxiety or depression and any other moderate/severe issues. There's also some studies that question the effectiveness of Internet based CBT approaches like SilverCloud for people struggling with ADHD because of the stress it puts on the client
