However, maybe through this edit I want people to see him as something else than a manipulator. You see the manipulation, but do you see the reasons? This story isn’t about power, nor about dreams, it lacks both. Maybe Johan is meant to be uncomfortable. Maybe the only way to understand him is to feel what he has felt when looking at him. I suppose it requires… empathy. It doesn’t mean anyone should agree with his actions, it just means we can understand even what lacks a true meaning, a genuine purpose. At last, I found someone who shares the same view as me. Johan is clearly a terrible person, but he isn’t truly a monster. He is the result of unimaginable trauma — a victim who was never able to heal, someone from whom everything was taken: his family, his childhood, even his identity. He didn’t even have a name of his own. None of this excuses what he did, but it helps us understand why he became the person he is.
