People are missing the point. They didn’t say there weren’t any towns/cities but said there weren’t many compared to most countries w/long coastlines. The fact you can go long stretches w/o running into another town is rare. (Swakopmund is a beautiful city btw. My favorite that I visited when I was in Namibia)

Namibia’s coast is thinly populated for similar reasons why Canada’s Arctic Ocean coast is thinly populated: dry, cold weather with land that is not fertile.

Swakopmund is on the coastline, beautiful place with lots of residents. The Port of Walvis Bay has a major and thriving commercial harbour. Luderitz and Henties (Mining and Fishing tourism)
