Get a thermal camera! Even with spot lights it’s too hard to see. But cameras and a thermal camera will show you what it is.

I'm wondering if you might have a mountain lion. They make lots of different vocalisations and the hoot you mentioned could have been one of them. You can check YouTube for all the different sounds they use. All of what you've said could be explained by them.

I have a short track of woods on the back of my property. I would never go in my back yard after dark. I found dusk to dawn floodlight bulbs at Lowe's and now my yard is completely lit up. I feel safer.
