Nope. I would decline that call and ask that they emsil me so I have the details of their request for reference and can reply thoughtfully. If they push back again, I'd say, this is now taking longer than an email would.

At a former employer, we had a rule in our team that no one could approach your desk for 30 mins after you arrived. It gave you time to log in, look at what emails, etc you had and get your thoughts together. I feel the same about it now and we are all on line. Let people breathe for gosh sakes!

I’m never available for a call for my first hour of work. 30 minutes if I’m feeling nice that day. The only exception is if my boss needs to talk to me. That has never happened in my 3 year here.
