@beginbirding: Here's some of the birds that are singing at the moment to help you recognise what you are hearing. Chiffchaffs are now singing in lots of places, their steady back-and-forth of two simple notes repeated again and again. Great Tits can sound similar at first, but listen for the difference in tone. Their song is bolder and more ringing, and they often change the pace while keeping that simple repeated pattern. Around wetlands you might hear Reed Buntings singing their lazy song, from the tops of reeds or bushes, finishing their short song with a slightly longer drawn-out note. And in woodland or parks, listen for the rapid drumming of a Great Spotted Woodpecker echoing through the trees.
