@yourmoneymatesarah: Gotta love a bit of Gen Z ✨audacity✨ Fun fact: I found my ADHD psychiatrist on TikTok because he branched out of his 9-5 and started posting content. Pretty cool. #millenial #zillenial #genz #careerchange #contentcreation
Elder millennial here and a lot of us now have kids of various ages and mortgages that we’ve only just started as it took us so long to get on the property ladder (if at all). Audacity and risk are easy when you’re in your 20s and having nothing to lose, but less useful when you’re about to enter your 40s.

I think part of the narrative we had was how job hopping is bad, it’s looks bad on your CV and no one wants to hire someone who doesn’t stick in a job a long time. Stay somewhere and either work your way up or move jobs to get promoted after a few years. But never ever leave a job quickly because it looks questionable on your CV. It’s engrained in us.

As a millennial navigating leaving a job I've been at for 15 years i applaud your resilience and attitude to work. I'm panicking about finding the next thing as I have a family to support and responsibilities that need a steady income but I know as I haven't moved I am currently underpaid 🙈 scary though!

We poured our time and energy into Friends Reunited, then MySpace, then Facebook, then Flickr, then Bebo, then blogging, then YouTube, then Behance, then Twitter, then LinkedIn, then Instagram, then Google+, then Vine…
We’re tired.

Early millennial here and the job I’ve been in for 20 years is about to be replaced by AI. Problem is, I’m now a single mum with 2 little kids, a mortgage and a business that took years to build and only just getting traction… I don’t have time or energy to pivot and start doing UGC. And there is a gluttony of creators and new apps and ideas starting, I’m actually thinking furniture flipping without the content part might be more lucrative and fit my lifestyle (of never having any time in front of my phone without a 6yo taking over - content creation ain’t easy with a leech in your space 😂)

In my industry, you can only climb the corporate ladder at your company when the person above you leaves. So you're forced to move if the person above you is happy in their job.

Working with millenials who are older than you but stuck in their career and you end up managing them - because you are the newly hired manager who “job hopped her way - is becoming a GenZ canon event.

Knowing that us is closer to a feudalism system on UBI, than to a revolution because they are pouring billions soon to get to a trillion of dollars into robotics AI, that can be adapted with skills like Claude … going after the blue collar workers, meanwhile we’re training the enterprise LLM by babysitting them for 2-3 years until they won’t need us.

I’m a millennial with no specific specialty, I do whatever I can learn and it helps a lot, I’ve been getting pay rises faster than my Gen X colleagues, aaaaaand I have a TikTok paranormal channel hahaha

I was taught the same things as a millennial, do higher education, go to uni, get a good job, work hard. I did higher education but didnt stay long at uni, so got a job. Didn’t matter how hard I pushed to get a better contract, for 6 years I was stuck there with nothing happening. So I decided to become a video editor. But one of my hobbies that I had started while working at my dead end job took off. I’ve been doing YouTube full time since. When I was in school the jobs they taught us about are so different to what they are now. The landscape has changed so much I’m not surprised millennials are going through a career crisis

Elder genX here and ours was everyone needed to be a specialist. I am a generalist in a profession that typically prefers specialists (project manager). My specialization is in the job that I perform, not the industry that I serve. I highly recommend people being generalists/having one area that is your career and the other side of you that specializes/dabbles in whatever it is that floats your boat, whatever it is, that makes you happy. Get your pay so that you can do what you want. Like she said, be an accountant who also posts about fashion. Also, don’t be afraid to branch out and do more than just the one thing that you find interesting, allow your passions to grow and change as you learn more and age and your life changes. She is giving absolutely fantastic advice!!

I love this but it still leaves us in a space of not knowing how to proceed when we’re happy with how the career is progressing but never even getting close to the fiscal income of a Gen Z with a quick idea. Mad world we live in right now.
