@stefaniemoconnell: TLDR: male evaluators were more biased against women candidates when there was another woman on the evaluation committee 🤦🏻♀️ I think these findings gives us an important insight into our current moment of political backlash and unapologetic misogyny. When just one woman in a position of influence is enough to trigger significant bias and backlash against all women, the systematic exclusion of women from positions of greater power, influence and pay is easy to maintain — even when it's not made explicit. #genderinequality #WomensHistoryMonth #careertok The research: “Does the Gender Composition of Scientific Committees Matter?” Manuel Bagues Mauro Sylos-Labini Natalia Zinovyeva
Almost like men are annoyed they have to tolerate that one woman and are taking it out on the others. Kind of like the increased repression against Black Americans following Obama‘s presidency.

What women and what men? Intersectionality is always excluded from these conversations like gender is the only bias.

that is very difficult to show reliably given the variances in the tests. How was the norm for each evaluator established ?

The new discourse in my country is how many more women graduate in higher education and how education must be biased against men. nobody has brought up yet that women *need* the degree to even be considered for an interview, whereas men can play 'talent' or 'personality'. In all those years I've never seen a female wild card, but it's not rare for men - and they regularly land those jobs too. we see men as individuals, and women as a herd.

there are so many shocking things with gender bias.
It is also known for decades in sociology that if women in a 50/50 constellation have 30% of the spoken time men and women recognise it as equally distributed.
If women have 50% of the spoken time. Both participating groups recognise it as women speaking way too much for a fair distribution...

I feel like this ties in with the study where participants were asked to guess what percentage of the time each gender had been speaking during in a meeting. 🤔

I feel this is also reflective of race bias... I've heard people say that there's lots of black and brown people where they work and when I looked they have a workforce of 100+ and only 1 person of colour. I was shocked...I also noticed this for schools and when looking at the population size it was less than 4.5% for black people... so they saw 1 black person and equated that to hundreds... how odd

Black candidates face the same as well. Would be valuable to see how it specifically affects Black women.

Do you think this happened because the men thought that the woman would prefer female candidates and thus they felt like they needed to "protect" the male candidates by picking them more?
