Its high bounce makes it perfect for escaping bunkers, and it’s also really handy for short chips and pitch shots around the green. Next, the gap wedge. As the name suggests, the gap wedge fills the space between the pitching wedge and sand wedge. With 50°–52° of loft, it’s sometimes called an “approach wedge” and is generally bought separately. And finally, the pitching wedge. Typically 46°–48°, though some modern sets go as strong as 43°. The pitching wedge almost always comes with your irons and is great for full shots and bump-and-runs. You should aim for about 4° of loft difference between each wedge, and mix up your bounce options so you’re prepared for any lie around the green.
