The much anticipated West End transfer of Into the Woods has finally arrived and I’m happy to report back that it is as magical as I remember it being at the Bridge Theatre. Maybe even better! ✨ Star rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (PR invite/gifted) This beloved Sondheim musical is a masterpiece in storytelling! Taking the well-established characters from brothers Grimm stories such as Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk and making them all meet as they go to the woods to get their wishes. While this enchanting production has kept all of its original stunning elements such as set & costume design, the new cast is giving these characters a fresh take which was great to see.
John Dagleish and Laura Pitt-Pulford make a brilliant Baker and Baker’s Wife, while the new Princes, Matthew Seadon-Young and Lucas Koch, had everyone in pieces during their numbers. And with returning favourites like Kate Fleetwood as the Witch and Gracie McGonigal as Little Red Riding Hood, it feels like a production that’s evolved rather than simply been recreated for the West End. What I particularly enjoyed about this production is how well the staging works in a traditional proscenium arch theatre. I actually think it works even better at the Noël Coward Theatre than it did at the Bridge! Into the Woods is on until 9 January, so take this as your sign to catch this Olivier Award-winning production, because it’s a must-see!!! @Into The Woods #intothewoods #sondheim #theatre #london #musical
