@youthpastorryan: I was told this recently by a nice guy named Paul and I started investigating. This is kinda crazy that the production of citric acid involves black mold and a lot of it. Like who discovered this?! Anyway enjoy some weirdness!

the mold used for citric acid is Aspergillus niger while the harmful black mold found in wet and damp areas if houses is Stachybotrys chartarum. so not the same mold

the field of engineered mold and bacteria is actually really interesting (and shouldn't be feared), we can make so many materials with molds and bacteria way more efficiently than with other methods, you should check out 'the thought emporium' YouTube channel for some more information, they have a bunch of projects on the subject, I'm actually really surprised Ryan would partake in this kind of fearmongering, it's really out of character

Fun fact: my spouse is HIGHLY allergic to corn and A LOT of that black mold that C.A comes from is grown on corn. My spouse can’t have anything with C.A in it for that reason which makes it incredibly hard to find something he can eat because it’s in everything 🙃

not all mold is bad. I mean people eat blue cheese all the time. most traditional cheese processing used different types of mold.
