The times you have to interact with The Girl as Grace, you are taught from the very beginning, is to hide, sneak, and run from The Girl. It is even more apparent when you realize you can only stun her with your bullets, not actually hurt her. Even on my first playthough, I went straight to the elevator doors instead of fighting.
