Doesn’t happen with a B&W companion hitch. Once you latch it and put the pin in it’s not coming out.

I drove a semi for Yellow Freight System for 40 years. Pulled single and double trailers. Retired 10 years ago. I was taught at a young age to first visually inspect each 5th wheel that jaws were locked. Then do the tug test.

Always, but I barely retract the jacks an inch or two, engage the brake assist, and give it a tug. but for added reassurance, my hitch has a color code system that tells you you're in towing mode
