instead of double stacking your wedges have you ever tried this method. put 1st wedge in the kerf the bore cut in the stump about 1" under the 1st wedge put 2nd wedge in the bore cut. you will never have a wedge jump out on you that way and you get another inch of lift on the backside

cool tip, when stacking wedges, especially in a tight gap, put a little bit of dirt between them, it will stop the top one sliding on the bottom one
