@soulfully.adventurous: Did you know the male Brown-headed Cowbird has one of the most recognizable looks and sounds at the feeder? He’s easy to spot with his glossy black body and rich chocolate-brown head that can shimmer in the sunlight. And his call? It’s a bubbly, gurgling whistle that almost sounds like water pouring from a bottle. When he sings, he puffs up his feathers, bows forward, and puts on a little performance. Today, this handsome visitor stopped by my feeder to snack on @Flockin' All Season Blend bird food — and of course he had to announce himself with that unmistakable call. 🐦 Listen closely… you might hear him before you see him.

I recall the first time I heard that sound, a number of years ago…it was coming from the branches of a front yard tree right above me…I looked up and saw a male brown-headed cowbird just before it flew off. That was the first time I consciously observed this species and also learned what it sounded like.
