They didn’t put his name out of reverence, during those times even when spoken one wouldn’t say his name out of reverence the same reason why you wouldn’t call your incarnate mother or father with their first name out of reverence and respect. Nothing was ‘taken away.’ In the original Hebrew, God’s name (YHWH) was considered so holy that it wasn’t spoken aloud. People would say ‘Adonai’ (Lord) instead out of reverence, and that tradition carried into translations. So when you see ‘LORD’ in the Bible, it’s actually pointing back to that same name. Different traditions preserved it differently, but it wasn’t hidden, it was honored.
