@olympiaanley: POV: you realise most activewear is literally plastic. Polyester, nylon, elastane - the fabrics used in most gym clothes - are petroleum-based and processed with insane amounts of chemicals like phthalates, bisphenols and PFAS (“forever chemicals”), many of which are known endocrine disruptors. When we wear, wash and sweat in these fabrics they shed microplastics. These particles are now being found in human blood, lungs and even plaque in our arteries. We now know that individuals with microplastic buildup have 4.5 times greater risk for stroke and heart attack. And yet we wear these materials tight on our skin while exercising, when our body temperature and absorption are highest. I’m not saying throw everything away overnight - but it did make me rethink what I wear the most. I’m slowly switching to natural fibre activewear where possible (organic cotton, merino, etc). I’ve included some of my personal favourites but drop your non-toxic activewear recs in the comments.

The healthier fabrics like cotton and wool make me so itchy I can’t. Polyester feels so good on my skin 😭

The irony that you're tossing it into a plastic bag that will go into a dump, break down and seep into the ground water. It's a vicious cycle...

Polyester is now just a buzz word with a negative connotation, there are different grades and it has its place especially in activewear

The whole point of activewear is to be breathable and stretchable, hence the elastane and polyester, while also being affordable. These companies are FDA approved, so no need to scare people off
