@iamrichroll: There are only three outcomes for the addict who won't surrender. I've been in proximity to all three–including my own. In my first-ever solo episode, I examine what addiction actually looks like from the inside and what it costs to come back from it. Available now in all of the pod places, and watchable on my YT channel.

those rooms do not offer happy joyous and free. that's far from true, it takes years of sobriety to get close and even then, life happens.

I have a disease — alcoholism. And for me, that disease centers in my mind. My mind lies to me. It tells me things that feel completely true in the moment, even when they’re not. The real problem is that I tend to believe those lies every time, even over what other people might be telling me. The only thing that has ever changed that pattern is solving my problems on a spiritual basis and finding an unblocked connection with God. When that connection is clear, my thinking becomes clearer too. It’s the only thing that quiets the lies my mind tries to tell me. Thank God for AA and the 12 steps.

Sober now and can say it was the ride not the outcome that kept me on. I am “better” in 9 out of 10 ways, but there is a hole that will just not be filled.

Life sober is more complicated than can be explained in a couple minutes, a couple weeks, a couple years…

because the chaos of addiction becomes daily life and becomes normal.. Even when the solution is presented it's the fear of change and the unknown of a different lifestyle that scares us. It's the fear of being dope sick and learning how to live again.. The pain of staying the same has to outweigh the fear of change and take that step... I'm so glad I did almost 5 yrs ago and change my life..

I got sober almost twenty years ago. In the throes of the disease (especially if I was hungover), I would have answered, « I’m not ready » and gotten a drink to feel better. It’s not until I had 28 days that I could even consider the realistic good over the lies and agony had with alcohol.

I wish our brains could he fixed or altered that would take away urges or compulsion. i am taking a glp 1 for weight loss and it also helps with other addictions like soda. I think they are on the something
