@meghannmcuniff: The lead detective in the murder case against Kouri Richins testified today about how an investigation into her husband's fatal fentanyl overdose identified Richins' housekeeper Carmen Lauber as a person of interest. The key to the murder investigation into Kouri Richins was her housekeeper, Carmen Lauber, who testified about getting pills that prosecutors allege Richins used to lace a cocktail with fentanyl and give to her husband, Eric Richins. Detective Jeff O'Driscoll of the Summit County Sheriff's Office in Utah testified on Wednesday (March 11, day 12) about finding a copy of Eric Richins' obituary in Lauber's bedroom after obtaining a court-authorized search warrant in 2023. Detectives also found marijuana gummies, drug paraphernalia and a gun. "Based on knowing that Carmen was in drug court and knowing a little bit about that how that program works, it seems like she had all of these inspirational quotes that helped motivate her through her progression in drug court, and amongst them were photos of her loved ones, her family. And then amongst all of that was Eric's obituary," O'Driscoll said. "Dead center, wasn't it?" Prosecutor Brad Bloodworth asked. "Yep, right in the middle of the mirror," O'Driscoll answered. Jurors also saw a photograph of a hat found in Lauber's room that had the logo for Eric Richins' company, C&E Stone Masonry. A detectives searched her home, a deputy stopped Lauber as she was driving and arrested her. "Did that deputy seize her phone?" Bloodworth asked. "Yes," O'Driscoll answered. "During that stop, did that deputy find evidence of a crime?" Bloodworth asked. "Yes, he found that Carmen was driving on a suspended license," O'Driscoll answered. "Did he arrest her for driving on a suspended license?" Bloodworth asked. "Yes, he did," O'Driscoll answered. O'Driscoll is the final prosecution witness.
