@willowsgreenpermaculture: Why Wild Grapes Belong in Every Food Forest Wild grapes (Vitis riparia), also called riverbank grape or frost grape, are one of the most resilient native fruit vines in North America. In this video I show how to grow, harvest, prune, and preserve wild grapes for a healthy food forest. Many people see wild grape vines growing along fences, trees, and forest edges and assume they are weeds. In reality, wild grapes can be one of the most productive and reliable plants you can grow in a food forest. In this video I share how we harvest wild grapes here at Willows Green Permaculture and how we preserve them so we can enjoy fresh grape juice all winter long. I also show how we mix wild grape juice with elderberry, chokecherry, black currant, nannyberry, and other native fruits to create delicious and nutritious juices. Wild grapes are not only productive for people — they also support birds, pollinators, and wildlife, helping to strengthen the entire ecosystem around your garden. In many cases, they can even help protect your vegetable garden by providing food for wildlife away from your crops. If you're interested in growing resilient native food systems, wild grape is a vine that truly deserves a place in your food forest. Thank you for being here — and as always, I read and respond to all of your comments. 🌱 Comment ‘Full Video’ for the link to the full video. #permaculture #regenerativeagriculture #homesteading #grapes #nativeplants
