Nigerians are among the most adaptable people in the world. Drop us in London, Toronto, Dubai, or Houston and we figure things out quickly. We learn the rules. Respect traffic laws. Queue patiently. Separate our waste. Pay fines. Adjust our behaviour. Then many of us return home and suddenly red lights become suggestions, speed limits become inconveniences, and public rules become optional. This raises an uncomfortable question: Are we incapable of order? The evidence says no. We clearly have the ability to function within well-run systems. We prove it every day around the world. The problem seems to be something else. Many of us have become so accustomed to dysfunction that functioning systems feel strange, inconvenient, and even restrictive. We adapt brilliantly to order abroad because the systems are credible and the consequences are predictable. At home, too many people assume the rules are negotiable because they have often been inconsistently enforced. The Nigerian problem is not a shortage of intelligence or adaptability. It may be that we have normalised disorder for so long that we struggle to collectively sustain systems that actually work. And perhaps our greatest national challenge is not learning how to thrive elsewhere. It is learning how to bring that same discipline home. #Mindset #Leadership #Nigeria #SocialPsychology #Growth
