@craycrime: Isabelle Valdez, 15, and Lois Lippert, 14, were back in court on March 11 for a bond hearing. The girls, who attended Lake Brantley High School in Altamonte Springs, have been charged with attempted murder. A judge decided in court Wednesday morning that Valdez and Lippert will remain in the jail. The awkward silence that follows suggests Louis may not have been as serious, yet she still allowed herself to be bought into the conspiracy. What’s baffling is their inability to grasp the severity of the situation. Children are really so desensitized to violence that they see nothing wrong with murder serving as the punchline to a poorly crafted joke. Or as a means to an end in the completing of a ritual. Of course there is more at play here than merely perverse internet culture corrupting and radicalizing the youth. However, I’d speculate that its role isn’t a minor one either. Of course this is nothing new. Violent media has been blamed for crime well before the internet was around. Yet, the youths ability to access such graphic content, while simultaneously conversing with others from around the world who may encourage cruelty, is a relatively new phenomenon whose consequences aren’t fully understood. Yet, after typing this I can still go on twitter and or Reddit and view gore from the comfort of my couch. About as dystopian as it gets. It’s a depraved new world we’re living in. However, don’t think I’m placing the blame at young peoples feet and walking away. I’m simply making an observation.
