As the tyre heats up, the rubber becomes even stickier, allowing it to deform and “key” into the microscopic texture of the asphalt. Combined with the huge aerodynamic downforce produced by modern F1 cars pushing the tyres into the road, this creates enormous mechanical grip, letting drivers corner at extreme speeds
