What injury does this target? What injury does this PREVENT! This is a hybrid of a Jefferson Curl and a back extension, giving you many of the benefits of both. The Jefferson Curl LOOKS horrible on your back but can actually be an effective exercise for developing strength and resilience in the spine and stabilizing muscles of the spine. It's very effective for injury PREVENTION by strengthening your back in an awkward position (spinal flexion). The back extension exercise is excellent for developing strength in the muscles of the lower back and posterior chain. This setup locks your hips into place and gives you something to brace against so that you can effectively focus on muscle contraction in the lower back, starting with spinal flexion and coming up into spinal extension and hip hinge. As well, because you're using a barbell like a landmine, it changes the strength curve AND direction of resistance as you come up to the top, adding directional resistance similar to the top of a deadlift. It's basically a hybrid strength AND mobility exercise. Naturally, don't do this one if you have lower back issues and start light if you do try it. In my experience, once you get used to the movement, it actually feels really good and can be very effective for strengthening your lower back. Always do exercises like this slowly and under control. In my experience, once you get used to the movement, it actually feels really good and can be very effective for strengthening your lower back. Always do exercises like this slowly and under control. At the start, begin by "pulling stretch" into the upper back, then gradually activating the hamstrings, glutes and spinal erectors to squeeze the weight off the floor. DO NOT pop it up quickly. Done carefully, this movement can build: - extremely resilient erectors - hamstring flexibility under load - strength in rounded spinal positions I'm using 90 lbs here. That amount of weight was ok in terms of not needing to anchor the other end of the bar. Much heavier and you would want weight or an actual landmine attachment to make sure the end doesn't fly up. Stubborn muscle not growing? Full 3-week specialization program... Link in bio Comment MASS if you want it. #jeffersoncurl #backextension #lowerbackexercise #mobility #posteriorchain
