This is anecdotal, of course, but I was a toddler teacher for 17 years. A few years ago I had a Persian student. The wisdom, confidence, wit, and intelligence this little girl had was beyond anything I had seen. So happy to have been her teacher and gotten to learn about their culture through her family!

I'm always surprised to realize that a LOT of people don't know this. I'm so glad my grandfather, a poor farmer from Alabama who loved history, taught me so much and made me love history and the culture of other people as a kid.

The name Iran has been used by locals there for centuries, Persia was the name used by Greeks and the West.

I consider myself to be a moderately well educated (by American standards) and I had no clue. I’m grateful for living in the time where so many truths are being exposed. With that being true, Iran, though no longer called Persia, is as ancient of a civilization as Egypt and China? This year has taught me so much about the world. Now I want to know how Persia became Iran. It’s all so fascinating! Maybe one day I will be able to see Iran with my own eyes! I’m adding it to my travel wishlist.
