@clarkybateman: I’ve frequently talked about detaching from ego or identity because we are merely collections of our prior experiences. A healthy way to reconcile the idea that everything is predetermined by previous causes and external influences (which kind of negates free will) is to think of good things in the future already being written in your fate. Not necessarily goals or outcomes, but to think of positive internal feelings and intrinsic rewards being already predetermined to occur. That way, you won’t be disappointed if an outcome doesn’t meet your expectations, because you will find a way to integrate your manifested feelings into your future world. This also allows you to stay motivated to work towards something in the future, by partaking in some kind of self-improvement journey where your external goals could even be met along the way. “If everything is predetermined, why can’t it be predetermined by prior causes for me to feel happy and fulfilled in life?” And is my acknowledgment of this due to truly having free will and creating this thought, or is it simply because of all my external experiences/factors and prior causes? In the end, it doesn’t matter. I’ll just keep moving forward.

it’s funny i come across this. for the past few months ive struggled with my identity, bc i have so much regret & guilt in me that i feel as if my past self wasn’t myself at all. just a mask i wore to shadow my resentment for those who hurt me. yet i sit here not giving up, i know one day i will see a light that is the path im looking for. but i feel blind now. it’s a odd feeling to travel life rn not knowing who exactly i am. though i don’t give up on who i can be bc that is something i still yearn as if it was a breath i needed to live.

i think determinism is beautiful and creates and argument for relating human thinking capacity to other species or even thought models. what do you think of relating artificial intelligence to consciousness by equating the decisions we make to the outcome of a model that is trained by every past experience and external factor, similar to a deterministic outcome. would you say an ai is in that way similar to us and conscious. would you then say we are even really conscious if an ai is not
