Simple explanation is SARS gave you a refund/you paid less tax as an incentive to save for retirement. When you withdraw SARS whats their money back

I hear you and fully understand but its unfortunate to create a system that allows you breathing room financially but still punish you for doing so. I feel it defeats the purpose of being able to withdraw because people are genuinely struggling.
