Ahmet Duzguner of Alliston, Ontario, is currently on trial in Barrie for the first-degree murder of his ex-wife, Sibel Duzguner. In 2022, Sibel was shot five times at close range through the driver-side window of her vehicle as she prepared to leave for work. Surveillance footage showed a grey Volkswagen Jetta blocking her vehicle, and the Crown alleges Duzguner hired individuals to carry out the killing. A longtime friend testified that Sibel feared for her life after planning to remarry a man in Türkiye. The witness alleged Duzguner and his brother pressured Sibel to transfer ownership of her home and leave Canada without her three children. She also testified that Duzguner had previously threatened to kill Sibel. Duzguner was arrested in 2024 following a $50,000 reward offer and has remained in custody. Prosecutors are expected to present wiretapped telephone conversations between Duzguner and his daughter recorded shortly after the killing.
