@blueacregarden: It’s time to prune your panicle hydrangeas (limelight, pinky winky, bobo, Quickfire, Quickfire fab, vanilla strawberry, pufferfish, etc!). You prune now in late winter/early spring for your growing zone because you need to reduce the size or shape of the plant before it fully comes out of dormancy and leafs out. Your plat hasn’t made its flower buds for this year yet, so you can prune without worrying! #gardening101 #hydrangeapruning #springgardening #hydrangea #TikTokLearningCampaign

I love my limelight hydrangea but how do I keep them from falling when it rains? The heads get so big and beautiful but also weigh the stems down

The Little Lime Hydrangea I bought last year had some beautiful blooms but one thick stem was weighed down and now they look like this. I’ve read online I should just cut it right back to the first leaf node near the soil. But there was also a suggestion that I could very gradually try to straighten it using bamboo and Velcro. I am leaning towards cutting it right back to allow the rest of the branches get stronger. But all those leaf buds make me feel bad about cutting them off

What happens if you pruned ones that are younger than 3 years old 😳

I just pruned my limelight’s this week, and now the next three days are snowy 16-32 degrees. Should I cover them since they are freshly pruned?

So I have a question I just planted a pinky winky and a vanilla strawberry in the fall three weeks prior to the first frost in zone six. Should I prune those? Or let them grow this full year before pruning

When is a good time to move them to a different area? Mine are 2-3 years old and I unfortunately placed 6 of them too close together.

My limelight is 6 years old and I never started pruning it until this year. I have some thick old wood that is too low to the ground that I never pruned, but would look better removing to allow the plant to grow upward. Is it okay to remove thick old wood now if I never did it before and it got out of hand? I am afraid cutting these thick branches may ruin the plant.

Thank you for the tips! I pruned my second year quickfires last year not knowing. The grew straight up in the center and the edges are weak/floppy. Should I prune the centers this year (now on their third year) or wait?

I always make each branch a y, strip anything below the Y, and cut anything skinny down to the base. They look very very sparse right now. But they do really well with a big cut!!!

Are you allowed to cut some blooms off for a bouquet, or will that damage the plant since it’s summer?

I have 8 pufferfish hydrangeas along my from walk , planted them last year but concerned that 2 may not come back. Any advice on fertilizer/nutrients for them? Also is there a way to tell early if a hydrangea will come back or is it more of a wait and see if it buds?
