Dear Undergraduate student, don't lie to each other that a degree is a degree. if you know you are capable of getting better than a third class please do so. an undergrad degree with a credit and above will open more doors for don't say I didn't tell you

As a Chevening alumna, I’ll say this. You don’t need the best grades to get the scholarship. They’re all about your leadership impact. But you do need good grades to get admission into your preferred universities. I had a 2:2 and got rejected by most universities. Some people bag the scholarship, but without an offer from universities it’s useless

At some point, two of us applied for the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship. I had a 2:1 and unique voluntary experience, my friend with first class who had little to no voluntary experience didn't get it but I did. He got Commonwealth 2 years after my award.

I really appreciate this insight, and it's encouraging to know these top-tier scholarships are accessible to many! However, I’d still encourage students to aim for a First Class or 2nd Upper whenever possible. While some doors remain open without them, many employers still use academic honors as a primary filter to manage large volumes of applicants. A strong certificate often acts as the key that gets you in the room so you can actually demonstrate the talent and knowledge you have in your head. In a competitive world, why not give yourself every possible advantage? Aim high, and let your results open as many doors as possible!
