@davesummersenglish: Learn English. Grammar: "I have prepared" vs "I am prepared", PAST PARTICIPLE, PRESENT PERFECT. DSE260313. #learnenglish #englishgrammar #davesummersenglish
Heeey. Present perfect aspect compared to a past participle adjective!
I'm hoping to go into English teaching and love your videos. Glad to see one that I could immediately answer haha.

Yes. You are absolutely correct. It is necessary for me to keep these videos short (people want me to make 3-minute lessons). Therefore, I avoided the passive voice in this video. English is not a perfect language. You have discovered one of its ambiguities. Without context, it is sometimes impossible to know if a word is acting as an adjective (stative passive) or a passive verb (dynamic passive). It's a very thin dividing line.😂
"The biscuit is brown." - 'brown' is describing the biscuit. Therefore, 'brown' is an adjective.
"The brown biscuit is on the plate." - 'brown' is describing the biscuit. Therefore, 'brown' is an adjective.
"The biscuit is broken." - (1) - 'broken' might be describing the biscuit (an adjective) or (2) it might be describing a passive action (true passive voice).
"The biscuit is broken by me." - Adding an 'agent' (me) confirms the meaning as a passive action (true passive voice).
"The broken biscuit is on the plate." - 'broken' is describing the biscuit. Therefore, 'broken' is an adjective.

Very good indeed. Some people have prepared for the exam, but they are not prepared because they haven't prepared enough.

To me the difference is if you’re actually prepared. If you tell me you have prepared I know you tried. I don’t know if you succeed.

“I have prepared” - I actively did the tasks and acts required to prepare for the exam. This doesn’t actually guarantee that I am ready or prepared for the exam. “I am prepared” - Regardless of the actions I took before the exam, I feel ready to take it.
