I got lucky and am hyper aware when driving but I do go really fast without really paying attention.

I have ADHD and driving is my biggest issue with my ADHD.

Could there be a spatial awareness aspect for the turning issue? I never really understood how people could just tell how their car had enough space. It didn’t make sense to me. I’ve gotten better especially with the amount of cameras around my car but it’s not like my spatial awareness better.

as someone with adhd, i struggle with spatial awareness and tailgating. sometimes it's not intentional, but it's one of my bigger issues when driving.

I am hyper aware and actually a great driver I'd say. Only have gotten a few speedong tickets a couple years back and only ever witnessed a crash, never was a part of it.
But it stresses me out SO BAD and there are so many unpredictable bad drivers out there... I have to always be on watch

I'm curious, did they do tests in manual and automatic transmission cars? Because when I have manual car I'm great driver, put me in automatic and I become very sub average driver.

I got a manual transmission and it keeps me focused on the driving. then add Vyvanse and I'm hoping to go into my 5th year without an accident shortly

I have adhd and I remember one time I took a turn and started driving in the wrong lane because I got distracted😭. Thankfully the road was empty, I didn’t notice until my friend asked me what I was doing

one of the most significant changes i’ve experienced since starting a stimulant is how much calmer and safer I am when driving long distance

See this is why I'm scared of driving. I'm 34 and I don't have my license and it's because I'm very scared I will cause an accident. I also have OCD though which definitely complicates it

My first car was a manual and I loved it, I was so engaged with everything I was doing, but after that car died I got an automatic and I feel like I’m way less focused when I’m driving, is that an actual thing or is this just a me thing?

I was a shitty driver before I bought a manual. Keeps me from getting bored and forces me to pay more attention

I learned I needed to be listening to podcasts while driving. Driving takes a certain amount of attention & I need something that precisely fills up the remaining attention. Without the attention filler, my mind wanders and can take away the attention that I need for driving.

I’m a medicated ADHD individual (vyv) and I know this is all based on personal experience and other neurological things possibly involved with me. I feel like I drive better when my medication is not active or I didn’t take it because when medicated yes I am much more focused but I feel like I’ve been a worse driver on it (ie. hitting more curbs and riding on the rumble strip) than when I’m not on my medication I feel like I’m much more aware and a defensive driver and can take more information in from my surroundings and make me at least feel like a better driver. My girlfriend will agree with this because we sometimes DoorDash together and she gives me grief more on days I’ve taken my medication for my driving.

For me, my brain starts dozing off once I get bored so I start making careless mistakes. Parking (esp parallel) is easy for me cause it’s difficult so my brain is engaged

I didn’t get my license till I was 19 because I was scared to drive due to my adhd. And my meds made me feel delayed so I felt my response time would be dangerous.

I’ve noticed that when I have high music I can sing along to, i drive better. The music and singer keeps my brain busy enough so it’s not drifting of or getting distracted, while staying focused on the road. And since I’ve been on elvanse, I don’t need it as much 😅
