@angelenacrownmd: Translating doctor speak: cancer edition. Medical jargon can be confusing but here’s a cheat sheet to help break it down. These terms may have more than one meaning but these are some of the more common meanings in medical settings. If something you hear or read in your chart notes isn’t clear, it’s always worth asking your team for more information. #meded #cancertok #doctorspeak #cancereducation
malignant doesn't always mean cancer. generally speaking, malignant just means it can cause harm if left alone

They should remind doctors to not use jargon with patients. They’re likely already in a stressed state and unable to absorb much information so using layman’s terms would go a long way for patient compliance and better bedside manner.

This is when I want to pull my hair out when I hear "Doctors don't ever treat the root cause" or "Scientists don't ever study the root cause." YES. TF. WE. DO.

I've had benign skin cancer. Malignant means the cancer can break off cells and spread to other organs, while benign canger will grow in place but not spread to other locations. Benign cancer still needs to be removed.
