@nehaltenany: I love the rental industry but is it taking away from brides? Curious to hear from others! #desiwedding #weddingguest #indianoutfit #desibride
I totally get what you mean with that mahima mahajan outfit! It can be a bridal half outfit or even a wedding guest outfit.

I feel like this might have been more of an issue a few years ago before the new wave of desi fashion + designers actually hit the US market! In general, I think consumers are so much more aware of the trends and are looking to wear designers or fancier outfits in general to weddings and the rental industry just makes it more accessible! I also feel like the pieces that are popping up on the rental app are more worn and mainstream looks that the bride probably wouldn’t be wearing - like that Mahima Mahajan lehenga is stunningggg but i don’t think many 2026/2027 brides would actually be wearing that because it was such a worn piece in the 2025 wedding season by brides and guests alike. Also +1 to your point about the jewelry, hair, makeup styling really making the look “bridal”! Not to mention the coordination with the groom - bc if you are wearing a designer piece and your SO is wearing a kurta vs wearing a sherwani it changes the level of formal your outfit looks too!!

PurvX.com Buy ReSell Desi Wear :
People that are spending $1k on buying guest outfits or $400+ on rentals are going to weddings where the Bride is wearing $5k+ outfits. And from our experience reselling beats rentals for desi outfits.

I feel like if ur wearing something that fancy (that it could also be worn by the bride) to a wedding, u would be close enough to know the brides outfits??And if ur not close enough to know her outfits, then why are u wearing something that fancy anyways?

this is also very niche cuz us south indians typically won’t run into this issue. we have kanchipuram sarees that are insanely personal and unique. and even if we do lehengas or whatever for other events, our south indian designers are very versatile

a lot of people questioned my decision to wear a saree to my reception (husband is telugu, our wedding was a week ago) but styling + custom color made such a huge difference and set me apart… sparkle also helped!

I actually encourage all my brides to put on total blinders. wear what you love and you’ll shine no matter what imo

As a small South Asian fashion studio in the US, reading this thread is fascinating. So many conversations happening right now about rentals, artisans, repeat wear and accessibility. The future of desi fashion abroad is going to look very different from the ‘one designer fits all’ era

I see this perspective, but bridal looks can come down to a delicate balance of styling and the bridal energy that simply can't be replicated. If brides stay true to themselves it’s hard to compare!
