A doctor told me they would need to talk to my husband if I wanted to even discuss sterilization. (And this was after genetic testing said we couldn’t have children together due to a deadly gene we both carried that would guarantee our children died before they turned 18). My husband went and had it done same day. He told me they didn’t even ask him any questions.

I actually had to listen to a speech from my husband's doctor and sign off on his vasectomy. he wanted to make sure I was okay with it and I wasn't just doing what my husband wanted. I was in the room when the doctor explained to my husband that if there was a possibility I wanted more children he would not do the procedure. I couldn't sign the papers fast enough. lol

Definitely depends on the doctor. January, I told my gyno I wanted to be sterilized. She asked if I was sure, I told her I was. My appointment is set up for April. She did ask if I changed my mind for another appointment I had in February, told her nothing has changed. I anticipate being asked again at my pre-op and day of surgery. It’s hard to find an MD who actually listens and doesn’t try to persuade you from your wants. Not once did she say anything about my husband and his thoughts or objections. She’s my doctor.
