I think the logic is backwards. Rates of anxiety are going up because social media and traditional media have profit incentives to spread narratives that spike anxiety in order to increase consumer spending to relieve the anxiety. So as a result of increased rates of anxiety, people are shutting themselves off from social interactions. But what do I know? I don’t have as many buttons on my shirt or credentials of authority as this guy.

Why is it individuals fault and not the system that encourages staying in at night after an exhausting day? Resturaunts don’t have to offer takeout. Streaming doesn’t have to cost as much as a theater. Public transit doesn’t have to cost money. It’s more cost effective and mentally simpler to stay in.

The statistic at the beginning doesn’t mean the restaurant industry has lost 75% of its foot traffic. A portion of those people may be opting for takeaway rather than home cooking. They may be eating at home with friends instead of on the premises. Im not disagreeing with the overall point but the statistic on its own is not necessarily an accurate illustration.
