With regards to the not enough people to sort through the stuff- I tried applying to volunteer for a well known charity shop today and not only do they require an interview but also two professional references for a volunteer position, didn’t realise it was so hard to just volunteer

Hot take - You are using charity shops as fast fashion now because it’s trendy.

i once bought a pair of obviously cut up shorts (that was fine, i like the style). turns out not only were they from shein, they also had an old, yellow, crusted and chewed up plastic retainer in the pocket.

i don’t mind shein in the chazza as some of it is more stylish than the granny clothes , but if it’s more than £3 i’m out

Going to oxfam book store is like thrifting in the old days, cause we’ve never had a fast-physical media book cause of streaming. So much good stuff there

I completely agree, it’s a shame that charity shops are now filled with fast-fashion. Unfortunately people don’t have an alternative to donating fast-fashion.

The fact that a shein top will be priced the same as a high end top is what really annoys me. Maybe they should price shein a lot lower to shift it? I don’t really pick it up because they’re not the best quality/full of chemicals but that doesn’t seem to bother some people. Maybe more would sell if 25p-£1 rather than £5+? Would be better than going for rags/polluting another country.

Funnily enough I came across this today when I was deleting pics from my phone. I’m not blaming Miquita alone for this, we’re all as bad. But the idea that we can just freely shop as long as we donate is a weird side effect of fast fashion brainwashing.

I don’t buy fast fashion and only buy second hand for the majority however I feel a better point here to make would be rather than donate to charity shops who themselves can be problematic with what they choose to keep and how they get rid of excess clothing they don’t manage to sell (they go to the rag man) Donating items to homeless and refuges is a really great option.

At this point I have been learning to sew with deadstock fabric or get pieces made to measure. Thrifting in my area has been terrible for a while now.

We just pass bags around our circle of friends, anything left after we’ve all chosen our bits gets given to charity shop, I wear my clothes to death but if I make a mistake there’s always someone to take it off my hands

the charity shop where I volunteer just puts extremely low prices on shein or immediately rags it. the stuff put on the shop floor never sells
