My whole life and up until the beginning of this year I was Catholic, but I struggled deeply with my faith. What made me step away was learning more about Catholicism and exploring the teachings other religions. Through this, I realized that religion can often be a coping mechanism humans use to believe in something greater, so we don’t have to constantly wrestle with life’s big questions. Every religion tells different stories about what the higher power might be to them,but as an agnostic I believe in a higher power without being certain if it truly exists. And I don’t feel the need to constantly praise it or follow strict rules just to be rewarded after death or the risk of punishment. Faith to me shouldn’t be based on fear or the promise of reward but it should come from a place of genuine understanding and peace. Leaving religion was the best thing I could’ve done. It lifted a heavy pressure off my chest and allowed me to breathe freely for the first time in a long while. It showed me the importance of being true to myself and gave me the freedom to think openly and question without guilt. And had helped me embrace my own beliefs and find comfort in not having all the answers.

ive had a fear of death for as long as i can remember, became religious in 7th grade out of fear and stopped because i felt it was weighing me down, now im agnostic and slowly accepting theres nothing after death.
