@ultrabasicmetamafic: Here’s a nice olivine chromitite under a microscope. It is one of (if not) my favorite rock! Super cool. The birefringence of the olivine is sick. Geologists look at rocks under a microscope to better identify minerals within the rocks. We are also able to see different textures that clue us into the petrogenesis (how the rock was formed and under what conditions) of the rock.
