Correct. This is why a great primary care doctor is important. Prevention is key.

Our pediatrician has not heard of lp(a). She checked my son’s ldl (standard panel), which is only a touch high, but my lp(a) and ApoB are high + family history of multiple early onset heart attacks. I’m going to try talking to my cardiologist about my kids and ask for tests for them. Not sure what else i can do. Primary Care doesn’t seem to know about lp(a) or any tests not on the standard panel.

I’m 37 and haven’t gotten a scan, but I was placed on crestor based on family history (pgf MA at 40 and 4x bypass 72; mgf died during stress test at 68) at 30. Do I still need a scan?

What about the issue of the calcium score only detecting hard plaque rather than soft plaque?

I wish that primary care physicians would take concerns seriously. It has been my experience they do not.

This is true. Children with family history of heart disease, hypertension, cholesterol, diabetes should be tested since they are young. Mother passed away at age 35 from a stroke. I am diagnosed since 17 years old and thanks to one Doctor that took care of mother when she was 32 that hers should check the blood pressure as soon as possible. I am 48 years old, catching early save lives
